Aims and scope
The objective was to effect an environmentally sound, cost-efficient closure that would pose no obstacles to approval for a problematic ash landfill facing several unusual challenges; define and assess the crucial factors, and initiate the further course of action.
Project topics
Development of a project strategy based on the main factors
- site below groundwater level in an opencast mine area
- relatively low potential of contamination
- unpreventable groundwater inflow
Preliminary studies and investigations had previously confirmed these problematic factors.
Follow-up
Other projects continued over a period of approximately ten years, including planning, monitoring and project management relating to the closure of the landfill.
